It’s not only important for search engine optimization, but it is important to gain trust with your customers to show that you know what you are talking about. The problem is that there are literally millions of blogs scattered around the web that gaining attention on yours can be difficult. One of the easiest ways to attract clicks through to your blog is by creating a compelling and catchy blog title that a user just can’t resist clicking on. But what should a blog title incorporate? Read on to find out how to write great blog post titles.

Engage Your Audience

Let’s say you are writing a blog about ways that you can prepare your lawn before the winter. What’s the better title – “Winter Lawn Care” or “The Top 5 Ways To Prepare Your Lawn for the Winter”. For starters, by adding in “The Top 5” into the title, it gives the potential reader a great idea about what they are about to read. “Winter Lawn Care” can sound like and advertisement, or something that isn’t necessarily engaging content. Make sure to include phrases like “The Top X”, “Best Practices For”, “Tips For”, etc.

Be Optimized For SEO

By using keywords in your titles it makes it easily understandable for search engines to recognize exactly what the post is about. Sure, keywords can make a title bland and boring, but it doesn’t have to. You can use both pop culture references as well as keywords to create a great blog post title.

Be Related to The Content

No one likes click-bait. You should make sure that what your title reads is what your post contains. If there is one thing for certain, if you bait a reader into reading your post and it isn’t what they expected, they will never click on a post of yours again. You also want to attract people that are interested in the topic and will potentially share the information around the web.

Be To the Point

There are mixed opinions on this but it is better to ere on the side of caution when it comes to the length of your blog posts. Try to keep it to around 10 words or LESS when writing a title. Not only does this make it easier for Google to see, but it makes it easier for the reader to understand what the post is going to be about.

Mislead Readers

If you write a title that says “The Top 5 Ways To Walk A Dog” it should be about the top five ways to walk a dog. Like I mentioned earlier, click-bait is a big no-no.

Keyword Stuff

While it is important to add keywords into your blog post titles, it is equally important not to simply stuff as many keywords as possible in to it. That’s just bad form and it also makes you look like you’re trying too hard for both Google and the user.

Be Dull

The point of the blog post title is to entice readers to click through to your blog. If you’re trying to do this by writing a title that says “Blog: Lawn Care” you can expect people to pass over it. Get creative, be funny, and have a good time writing it. You need to think of what you would click on if you were scrolling through a list of posts. Most likely, if you would click on it, so would someone else.
